These are Robert Rosing's striking images of a wild polar bear coming
upon tethered sled dogs in Canada 's Hudson Bay
 
The photographer was sure that he would see the death of his dogs when the polar bear wandered in. Instead, they played!

The bear returned every night that week to play with the dogs.

THE HIPPO AND THE TORTOISE
 
A baby hippopotamus that survived the Dec. 26,
2005 tsunami
has formed a strong
friendship with a huge
male
century-old
tortoise in an animal
facility in the Kenyan port
city of Mom-
bassa. The hippopotamus, nicknamed Owen and weighing
about 650 lbs, was swept
down the Sabaki River into the
Indian Ocean, then carried
back
to shore by the tsunami
waves, where he was rescued by Kenyan wildlife rangers.
 
The Samoyan that adopted the baby chicks...
 
Debby Cantlon was bottle-feeding an infant
squirrel when
Giselle, her pregnant Papillion, adopted him. Canton and her husband watched
as the dog dragged the squirrel's cage to
her own bed
-- twice -- just before she gave
birth to her 5 pups.
Canton was concerned,
but since Giselle was adamant, she decided
to let Finnegan the squirrel join the litter. And he did!
 
CAT-BIRD FRIENDS: They may be "NATURAL ENEMIES",
but apparently
this
particular
cat and bird don't know that
