A tugboat approaches the bridge, pushing a barge loaded
with coal. Notice how fast the river is running, at flood stage.

But the bridge doesn't open, and the boat can't stop. The
tug
now release the barges & starts backing up as hard as it can.

But the current's too strong. It carries the tugboat sideways
and sweeps it right under bridge.

Since the river's too high for the tugboat to fit under the
bridge,
the river sucks the tugboat down, under the water.
Incredibly, the tugboat pops back up on the other side. The
wheelhouse door and the door on the 2nd deck are now open.

It's mighty low in the water, but still afloat. If you look closely,
you see the bridge guardrail is underwater. The current's fast

Look at the water pouring out of the second deck doorway.

The working deck is still underwater, but as it continues on
down the river, the boat is actually rising,
not sinking.

Notice the smoke coming out the exhaust? The engine's still running!
The final shot shows the propwash at
the rear of the
tug. The tug is upright
again, and back under power. |
The tale of
the tugboat that wouldn't sink

in order --
right
to the end.
If not for the photos,
no one
would
believe
this could happen.
