Swimming with Bears
(Thanks to TJ for sending)

Swim with polar bears?
You can do it, if you dare.

Since July, 2004, in the little north Ontario town of Cochrane, kids can swim with polar bears.

The pool is a pool is separated into two parts by a layer of glass.

The bulletproof, shatterproof glass is almost 9 centi-meters thick.

This rare white cub doesn't have pink eyes, so it's not an albino...but it sure is
unusual!

Sweet shot of mom & cub.

Bear Playground
(Thanks to Ron E. for sending)

These people were startled
to look out the window and
see bears frolicking on the
playground they had just built
for their sons. (Above & below)

Trying out the slide...

The bears played for a while
and then went on their way.

Amazing Bear Rescue

On 9/15/07, a bear was walking across Rainbow Bridge (Old
Hwy 40) near Donner Summit,
(Truckee, CA) when two cars
crossing the bridge at the
same scared the bear into
jumping over the edge.

Somehow the bear caught the
ledge and pulled itself to safety.

Authorities decided nothing
could be done to help Saturday
night.  When they returned
Sunday morning they found
the bear sound asleep on the
ledge.

After securing a net under the
bridge, the bear was tran-
quilized and fell nto the net.

Bear and net were then
lowered to the ground.

A few minutes later, the bear
woke up and nonchalantly
walked out of the net to
freedom.

The moral of the story? Sometimes when confronted
with a bad situation, the best
solution is to TAKE A NAP.
