If you’re going to rob a bank,
at least try to hide
.

PORT TOWNSEND, WA - A man in Port Townsend, Washington, was arrested less than half an hour after robbing a bank when 6 witnesses pointed to the building where he fled.

Police arrested the 40-year-old man in his apartment building February 25 and recovered money taken from the Kitsap branch bank. According to Sgt. Ed Green, witnesses thought it was strange when they watched a man pulling a stocking over his head shortly before the heist.

Green said later that half a dozen people pointed to the apartment building and said, “He went in there.”

Unexpected Gator Bust

DAYTON, OHIO - Police in Dayton, Ohio went to a home February 25 and found cocaine, tablets, marijuana, a pair of guns – and a pair of alligators.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Joshua Hillard said in an interview they and the Dayton police officers were trying to serve a warrant for a man accused of violating his probation in a drug trafficking case.

Hillard said people in the house told them the suspect wasn’t home, but they were welcome to come in. Inside the home they found the contraband, as well as two alligators, one about two feet long, the other about five feet.

The officers immediately called for backup from animal control instead of for their parole violator. An exotic animal expert arrived to catch the reptiles.

Hillard said the man was braver than he is. No arrests were made.

Exploding toilets at Washington rehab center

AUBURN, WA.
- Firefighters were called for help February 26 at the Regency Auburn Rehabilitation Center in Auburn, Washington following a boiler malfunction that caused the toilets to explode with steam.

Firefighters said the minor explosion set off the center’s sprinkler system and flooded the floors of the three-story building.

While no one was injured, the Valley Regional Fire Authority said water caused damage to the electrical system and the kitchen.

Because of this, 72 of the building’s occupants had to be temporarily moved to five other rehabilitation facilities using ambulances, buses and vans.

If the shoe fits..the dog? .

DUESSELFORF, GERMANY - A police spokesman for the western city of Duesselforf, Germany, said their police dogs will no longer get their feet dirty when they patrol the streets.

That’s because the entire dog unit will soon be equipped with blue plastic fiber shoes.

Spokesman Andre Hartwich said February 25, “All 20 of our police dogs – German and Belgian shepherds – are currently being trained to walk in these shoes. I’m not sure they like it, but they’ll have to get used to it.”

Hartwich said the shoes are a necessity rather than a fashion statement because of the high rate of paw injuries on duty. One of the worst areas is the historical section, famous for its pubs as well as its drunken revelers. where dogs seem to step on broken beer bottles.

Hartwich said the dogs frequently get injured by tiny pieces of glass sticking deep in their paws. “Even the street cleaning doesn’t manage to remove all the glass pieces from between the streets’ cobblestones.” he said.

Hartwich said the shoes will come in large, medium and small sizes and will be blue to match the officers’ uniforms. The dogs will begin the shoes this spring, but only during operations that demand foot protection.

“Now,” joked Hartwich, “we just have to teach the dogs how to tie their shoes.
